Calorie & Macronutrient Calculator — Carbs, Fat and Protein After 50
Get an estimated daily calorie intake and a practical breakdown of protein, carbs and fats based on your body and your goal.
How the macros are split
We prioritize protein first — around 1.5 grams per kilogram of body weight, in line with research on preventing muscle loss in older adults. Fat is set to roughly 30% of your calories (about 1 g/kg), and carbohydrates take whatever is left. This keeps the plan muscle-friendly without banning any food group.
How this calculator works
Calories come from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (your resting metabolism from age, sex, height and weight) multiplied by an activity factor, then adjusted for your goal: −20% for gentle weight loss, +250 calories for muscle gain. After 50, gentler deficits protect muscle better than crash diets.
FAQ
Do I have to hit these numbers exactly?
No — treat them as ranges. Being within about ±10% of each target on most days is enough. Consistency beats precision.
Why is protein higher than the official RDA?
The RDA (0.8 g/kg) is the minimum to avoid deficiency in young adults. Studies suggest adults over 50 benefit from roughly 1.2–1.6 g/kg to preserve muscle and strength.
